How to share your availability with friends, on your terms

Short answer: in HangTime, sharing your free time never means sharing your life. You choose who sees your availability (anyone, followers, close friends, or only you), every event carries its own privacy tier, and anything hidden shows as a plain busy block, or as free if you'd rather the time look open.

The reason most people never share a calendar with friends isn't laziness. It's that calendars are intimate. Your therapist appointment, your second job, the date you're not ready to explain: none of that is the group's business. But your free Saturday is exactly the group's business, because it's the raw material of the friendship.

HangTime's whole privacy model is built to separate those two things. Friends can see when you're free without seeing why you're not.

Layer 1: Who sees your availability at all

One setting controls who can view your free/busy picture: anyone, followers, close friends, or only me. "Only me" still powers your own planning (Find Time uses it for you). It's just hidden to everyone else. Your work schedule has its own separate dial, so you can show friends your free days without exposing your shift pattern, or vice versa.

Layer 2: Every event has its own tier

Privacy isn't one switch for your whole calendar. It's per event:

One rule overrides everything, and it's the humane one: if you invite someone, they can see it, even a private event. Invitations wouldn't make sense otherwise.

Layer 3: Busy or free, you pick the shadow

For events a viewer can't see, you choose what they see instead: a busy block (they know you're booked, not why) or free (the time looks completely open). The free option matters more than it sounds: an all-day birthday shouldn't block your whole day in a friend's planning view, so mark it to show as free and stay plannable.

Close friends: a smaller circle, real perks

Close friends are a circle you mark yourself, and they can unlock more than visibility: you can restrict who's allowed to send you hangs: anyone, followers, mutuals, close friends, or nobody. Your time, your door policy. Private profiles add another gate: non-followers see only your name, username, and avatar, and new followers have to request.
